The chassis around the chain drive was flexing alarmingly as a result of the improved power from the ram
(not very suprising, I suppose, considering that there is around two tonnes of tension in the chain),
so we added an ally plate to stiffen it up.

The casualties of the alternative axe head:

3mm mild steel.


9.5mm polycarbonate.


3mm aluminium alloy.


working on a new spring-loaded chain-tensioner.
The old fixed one was allowing the chain to skip when the mountings flexed.
The spring tube will be connected to the right hand end of the tensioner, pressing the curved section against the chain.
